PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Good Day, Good People,

Today our Year 12 students finished their final lessons. They now have three weeks of external exams. Today we had a short Liturgy to send them off to exams. We will welcome them back for their Graduation ceremony and their Rite of Passage Liturgy later this term. In the meantime, we wish them well for their upcoming exams.

Michael Carr-Gregg spoke to our Principals earlier this week about the upcoming legislation (16 year age limit) about social media that is to come in on the 10th of December. Michael is involved with School TV. School TV is a helpful site on our website for parents. School TV is going to put something on the website in the near future. In the meantime I thought I would share a few things he shared. He said we need to treat this issue with care as our children have been used to having access. We need to listen to their concerns. He also suggested talking to them about the time they will gain from less screen time and what they may do with it. The other thing he spoke about was that current under 16 uses will lose everything when the date arrives. His suggestion is that our young people copy their material before this happens.

I was able to attend the 2025 Emerging Leaders Mental Health and Wellbeing Roadshow for secondary students last week. It was a very informative day with many guest speakers working with our Emerging Leader students. This was another good opportunity for our First Nations students and I thank the staff for their involvement.

We are into the end of year celebrations. Last week we had our Year 12 Awards night and this week our Sports Awards night. Both events ran very well as we celebrated the success of many of our students. We also had our Visual Art students display some of their work from the year. Our Hospitality students were also involved in providing food and drink for the night. Thank you to both groups and their teachers. I was a very proud principal.

Next Friday 31st October is “Day for Daniel” where we encourage our community to wear red. We also celebrate World Teachers’ Day on Friday 31st.
