Welcome to our last term for 2025. We look forward to a big finish.
We would like to congratulate the winner of this year’s Mark Mappas Medallion. This award is given by the P&F Association for a community member who has contributed to the College over the years. This year’s award goes to Rebecca Matthews. Rebecca is a past President of the P&F and has worked at numerous Winter Carnivals and many other community events for the College. We thank Rebecca for her contribution.
A reminder to our Padua parents of a few changes. Karen Krzelj is on leave for four weeks. Tamara Templeton is acting in this role.
We had a group of students and teachers head to New Zealand for a skiing holiday. This was an exciting opportunity for our students. From all reports a good time was had by all. I take this opportunity to thank the staff who accompanied the group.

RE MATTERS
Good day, good people,
Welcome to Term 4. We know this term goes extremely quickly and we all hit the ground running. We have a busy term on both campuses, starting with the celebration of St Francis’ Feast Day (which occurred over the holiday break).

The week prior to the holidays was the Year 12 Retreat, with students reflecting on their journey so far, and where they might be heading into the future. This term also sees us celebrate together as a community with our Sports Awards Night (Assisi), Year 12 Awards Night, Rite of Passage (Assisi and Padua), Graduation and our End of Year Masses on both campuses. It is a wonderful time for us to celebrate the successes of our students and the year as a whole with our St Anthony’s family.
FEAST DAY OF ST FRANCIS
On Friday, 4th October, was the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, a saint who modeled his life on the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels. St. Francis embodied the message of love in all that he did, reminding us of the transformative power of love and wisdom: "Where there is love and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance" (St. Francis of Assisi).
Even though this feast day did not fall within the College term, it is important to acknowledge the Franciscan heritage of the College. At St. Anthony’s, we embrace the core principles of Catholic Social Teaching alongside the values of our Franciscan charism: promoting the dignity of the human person, fostering community and care for creation, and serving with humility like St. Francis and St. Anthony. On this special Feast Day, we are reminded of the significance of these values and the importance of prayer in our everyday lives. Some of our staff celebrated this feast day by joining a Pilgramage to Assisi, Italy, an experience that reinforced true sacredness of our Franciscan Charism.
In the Franciscan tradition, prayer acknowledges that life may be unpredictable, but we trust that God is always with us, within us, and surrounding us with His boundless love. Through prayer, we draw closer to God. The Peace Prayer of St. Francis resonates with his philosophy and continues to inspire us as a powerful expression of peace and humility.
Peace Prayer
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
God Bless

Welcome back
To all our Padua families, a very warm welcome back! It’s fantastic to see all our students back on campus, energised and ready to dive into the final stretch of the year. As we launch into Term 4, we are looking forward to finishing strong, starting with a review of the amazing achievements from the end of last term.
The last weeks of Term 3 were a spectacular showcase of the talent and dedication within our school, and we extend a huge congratulations to all our classes and groups who participated in Eisteddfod including our Drama Club, two Dance Troupes and instrumentalists. Every student represented our school with pride, demonstrating their commitment and hard work and our school was commended on our students on a number of occasions.
We encourage all students to make the most of this final term by focusing on their learning goals and continuing to shine in the classroom every day. This final term is a wonderful opportunity for every student to finish the year proud of their efforts and achievements.
Pick up safety
We are aware that some students are not being picked up in the correct area or are playing after school. Please ensure your child understands where they should be at the end of the day for a smooth finish. The only supervised areas for pick up are the bus zone and pick up zone. Students should not be playing handball or being picked up by a car near the OSHC building and the back gate is not recommended as it is unsupervised.
Tamara Templeton
Deputy Principal (Acting) - Padua
Welcome back to Term 4 and it is the last term of high school for our Year 12 students. The last week of last term they had an excellent time at Lake Tinaroo as part of their Retreat. Plenty of time to reflect on school, the relationships they have made over the years and lots of fun times as a group. I thank the staff who were able to facilitate such a lifelong experience for our students. There are only two weeks of classes left and in the last week there are some other activities planned.
Some of our teachers went straight from Retreat to the NZ Ski Tour. They were able to enjoy some end of season snow to be able to have a terrific experience on the ski fields in a number of places. They also ventured out to other activities and had some wonderful meals as well. Thank you to the four teachers who were able to give these students such an experience. We hope it sparks their interest in travelling overseas.
Benedict celebrated their House Cup win with a Disco party in the SDC. There was fairy floss, snow cones, popcorn and a snag sandwich to enjoy. Our very own Rose Fitzsimmons was the DJ who had the tunes happening and plenty of activities and prizes awarded.
This week is a rather short week, so we hope the students enjoyed the extra day of holidays. Our Mixed Touch team headed off to Brisbane yesterday to compete in the QLD All Schools Touch Carnival. We wish them all the best. There will be more sporting events coming up in the near future.
A reminder that Wednesday 15/10 will be Academic Uniform day due to Sports and Specials Photos and Thursday 16/10 will be a sports uniform day.
Until next Newsletter or I see you, take care.

Scholarships
Scholarships can make a big difference when it comes to the cost of education. Whether students are finishing school or thinking about further study, there’s a chance they could be eligible for one or more scholarships – and they don’t have to be the top student to apply.
A scholarship is money that helps you pay for expenses related to education. It doesn’t need to be paid back, and it’s usually given to in one of two ways:
- as a lump sum (e.g. $5,000 once)
- or in smaller instalments (e.g. $1,000 each semester)
Scholarships can cover course fees, books and equipment, travel, living costs – or just help take the pressure off. They’re funded by universities, businesses, community organisations, individuals, and sometimes government departments. Each one will have its own goal – some are set up to support students with financial hardship, others aim to attract talented students into specific fields.

A Special Report: World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day is marked every year on 10 October as a reminder of the importance of mental health to our overall wellbeing. It is a day that encourages families, schools, workplaces and communities across the globe to start conversations, reduce stigma and highlight the support available for those who may be struggling.
Mental health challenges can affect anyone: children, teens, and adults alike. Recognising this helps us create more compassionate and supportive environments.
Parents and caregivers play a central role in shaping the mental health of their children. World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the pressures young people face in today's world and how we can best support them. Whether it's helping children find balance between school, technology, and rest; encouraging open conversations about feelings; or modelling healthy coping strategies ourselves - small steps at home can make a big difference.
By engaging with resources and discussions on this day, families can strengthen their understanding of mental health and contribute to a culture where seeking help is seen as a sign of strength, not weakness.
This Special Report highlights the importance of World Mental Health Day and offers practical suggestions for how your family can acknowledge and support it together.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
