RE MATTERS
A Moment of Reflection at Mid-Term
Good day, good people!
As we reach the halfway point of the term, many students are beginning to feel the pressure of increased classwork and upcoming assessments. It’s a time when feelings of stress and overwhelm can start to creep in. During these busy and sometimes challenging days, it’s important to pause and reflect on how our faith can provide comfort and strength.
We invite you to take a quiet moment to join us in this prayer—a reminder of God’s constant presence, especially when life feels overwhelming:
Let us pray,
Loving God,
Thank you for your presence during the hard and heavy days
—when we can lean on You.
Thank you for your presence in the bright and joyful moments
—when we can share our blessings with others.
Thank you for your presence in the sacred moments
—when we celebrate You, our families, and our friends.
For those who feel voiceless—speak.
For those who feel unworthy—pour out your love like waterfalls of tenderness.
For those who are in pain—bathe them in your healing stream.
For those who feel alone—surround them with your comforting presence.
For those who are struggling—shine your light of hope into their hearts.
Amen.
Let’s continue to support one another and draw strength from our faith as we journey through the rest of the term together.
Mini Vinnies and Teen Vinnies Sleepout
Our Mini Vinnies and Teen Vinnies groups, led by College Chaplain Ms Christina Ciencia-Jeroma, are preparing for their first-ever Vinnies Sleepout. This powerful event invites students to step into the shoes of those experiencing homelessness by spending the night with only basic food and shelter. Throughout the evening, students will engage in meaningful activities designed to deepen their understanding of homelessness and the incredible support provided by the St Vincent de Paul Society. It's a moving and formative experience that reflects our College’s commitment to compassion and service.
Ozanam Youth Leadership Program
A big congratulations to four of our students – Olivia Lawrence, Frasier Swinton, Dom Millican, and Isla Bobongie – who have been selected to participate in the prestigious St Vincent de Paul Ozanam Youth Leadership Program. They recently returned from a challenging camp near Brisbane, where they developed teamwork and leadership skills in a dynamic, military-style environment. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing them continue to grow as young leaders in service of others.
St Anthony’s Day Celebrations
St Anthony’s Day is fast approaching in Week 8, and we are excited to come together as a College to celebrate our rich Franciscan charism. The day will include a joyful College Mass, buddy class activities, and a special whole-College Drum Circle celebration. This annual event is a highlight of our school calendar, offering students and staff alike an opportunity to reflect, connect, and celebrate the spirit of St Anthony through community, simplicity, and joy.
Our College Prayer below helps us continue our focus on our College traditions.
College Prayer
Creator God, like Gabul, connect us through our ancestors to shape a just future
God of Wisdom, like Anthony, lead us, teach us, show us
Reflective God, like Clare, allow us to see your light in ourselves and others
God of Hope, like Agnes, fill us with the joy of possibility and purpose
Awe-filled God, like Giles, inspire us to be honest and trust in your way
God of Charity, like Benedict, open our hearts to goodwill, mercy and kindness
Peaceful God, like Francis, make us a channel of your love
Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak.
(St Anthony of Padua)
God Bless

Good day good people,
Prep offers
The first round of Prep offers was sent out on Monday, 19th May, and we are excited to offer places to our 2026 Prep students! Families are reminded that acceptance of these first-round offers is required by 6th June. We look forward to welcoming our newest students and their families into our school community.
Careers Week
Next week, we’re excited to celebrate Careers Week at St Anthony’s Catholic College. As the world of work continues to change and expand, it’s more important than ever to help students explore future pathways from an early age. Research shows that children begin forming ideas about gender and jobs from a young age, so it's vital we show them that careers aren’t defined by stereotypes, but by interests, talents, and possibilities. Through early career education, we encourage students to dream big, stay curious, and develop the skills they need for a bright future. Throughout the week, students will engage in fun, hands-on learning about a range of careers and cap it off with the chance to dress up as their favourite job next Friday, 30th May.
God bless,
Karen Krzelj - Deputy Principal (Acting)
Last week it was the first time we entered the Horizon H2 Fuel Car Grand Prix. The small group of students had been working quite hard for some months with Mr Snook to make the car. Come race day there was a slight electrical fault which meant that the battery was being used more than it had to and not enough hydrogen. It was a great opportunity for these students to meet like minded students from other schools and continue the journey next year.
There have been quite a few excursions this last fortnight. We had the Year 12 Social and Community Studies students visit the Townsville Magistrates Courts to further their understanding with the legal topics they are covering in class. Our Year 12 Japanese students had a nice dinner at Gyo and were able to practice their Japanese. Our Year 11 Aquatic Practice students had a great day out fishing and snorkelling as part of their unit. Monday our Japanese department organised and handed out heaps of Obento Boxes to staff and students to enjoy at lunch. What a tasty feed. We are really sorry for the mix up with the orders. Our Year 12 Elected Leaders accompanied Mrs Bond to celebrate the CWL Mary Help of Christians Mass and Morning Tea, while other students were completing their White Card course at school.
Our Dragons Rugby League players continue with their weekly competition while the Dragons Netballers do the same. They also had the Charters Towers Netball Junior Carnival. They had a good carnival with some wins and have gained a great deal of experience. Our Year 7&8 team managed to end up in second place, well done to them
Today we had our College photos hence the change in the day to wear their academic uniform. We hope they come up well for you.
Next week I will send out some information with regards to my address to the students on Assembly last week with regards to violence. I am waiting to catch up with the Year 11 students on Tuesday first before I send out an email.
Until next Newsletter or I see you, take care.

LEARNING & TEACHING
Year 11 Unit Change
Unit 2 will commence on Monday 26th May for most subjects in Year 11. The exceptions are subjects that have been registered as Alternative Sequence (AS). AS subjects are on a slightly different timeline than other General subjects. As subjects at St Anthony’s in Year 11 are:
- Ancient History
- Design
- Music
- Physics
If Year 11 students wish to discuss a subject change for Unit 2, they need to email Miss Tebble (ktebble1@sacc.catholic.edu.au), the Career Development Practitioner or myself (hrainnie@sacc.catholic.edu.au). Emailing both of us is best. Students have until Thursday 5 th June to apply for a subject change as all changes need to be
finalised by Friday 6 th June.
Students can no longer move into a Certificate course that is being delivered at school.
When considering a subject change after a course of study has begun, students and parents/carers should consider how learning and assessment requirements for the subject will be achieved within the required timelines. To receive QCE credit for a unit or unit pair, a student needs to complete all the learning and assessment as outlined in the syllabus. If a unit or pair of units is incomplete, due to non-completion of assessment, a unit or subject result cannot be awarded and no credit towards the QCE will accrue for the unit/s.
If you have any questions regarding subject changes or senior schooling, please contact me.
YEAR 11 & 12.
Students are reminded to access their Learning Summary on the myQCE platform on the QCAA website: https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/. It is vital that students check subject enrolments and personal details attached to their Learning Account to ensure
that the QCAA have the correct information. If any subject information is incorrect the College needs to be informed so that changes can be made. If personal details are incorrect or have changed (e.g., address), a parent may need to confirm the change.
myQCE also has a wealth of information regarding:
- Your QCE pathway
- Subjects and courses
- Assessment and results
- Getting motivated.
Parents can also access these resources through the QCAA website.

- Time Management – balancing work, school, and personal life teaches responsibility and organization.
- Skill Development – jobs help develop communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence & Responsibility – taking on responsibilities at work can boost self-esteem and independence.
- Networking Opportunities – Meeting employers and coworkers can provide future job connections

Careers Week 26-30 May 2025
This year, Careers Week at St Anthony’s will run from Monday 26 May to Friday 30 May.
At our Padua campus, students from Prep to Year 6 will have the opportunity to undertake micro-module activities from a new program called AweHunters developed by StudyWorkGrow. The aim of the program is to inspire young children and broaden their horizons and career aspirations. Each year level will have an assigned theme, such as Running The World, Everyday Heroes and Seeking Adventure.
At our Assisi Campus, there are various career building activities throughout the week, and students have the opportunity to explore various pathways and options at our Careers Discovery Day on Thursday 29 May. We are very grateful to have a wide range of education providers, businesses and industry professionals, including our parents and families, to make this a great day for our students.
Careers Week will culminate with Careers Dress Up Day for both campuses on Friday 29 May. Our Padua students are encouraged to dress up in a costume related to their year level Awehunters theme.
As we look forward to our upcoming Careers Dress-Up Day, we’re excited to see students exploring broad future aspirations! Just a friendly reminder that while dressing up as a chosen career is encouraged, all outfits should remain school-appropriate. Students should wear clothing that is respectful, safe, and suitable for a school environment, including sun safe hat and closed in shoes. Please avoid costumes that include weapons, offensive symbols, or items that could be distracting or unsafe. Thank you for helping make this a fun and positive day for everyone.
University
2026 University and Tertiary Applications
The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) is responsible for managing the undergraduate university and tertiary education admissions process in Queensland. Instead of applying to each institution separately, students can apply for courses through QTAC in one application.
Students can list up to six preferences. QTAC processes these preferences in order and make offers based on eligibility (for example, meeting subject prerequisites) and merit (for example, the ATAR)
For Queensland Year 12 students, QTAC calculates and releases the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) which is used for university entrance.
For students who are planning to commence university or tertiary studies in 2026, QTAC applications will open on Tuesday 5 August 2025.
To stay informed about key dates and receive timely reminders, students can sign up for QTAC’s Remind Me service.
To assist students with navigating the admissions process, our Year 12 students will participate in a QTAC How to Apply presentation. There will also be a University Information Evening for parents and students on Tuesday 22 July from 5.00-6.30pm.

Last week, our school was filled with pride and inspiration as we held a special Badge Ceremony to officially welcome the new members of our Mini Vinnies team. It was a meaningful occasion where students pledged to live out their faith through action, compassion, and service to others.
The ceremony was facilitated by our School Chaplain, Cristina Ciencia-Jeroma, with the support of our Padua APRE Rose Fitzsimmons and grade 5 teacher, Ms. Blackburn.
During the ceremony, we also welcome our new Mini Vinnies President – Alex Ralph! With a heart for service and a strong sense of leadership, Alex is already inspiring others to step up, reach out, and bring positive change to our community. We look forward to the journey ahead under Alex’s guidance and the incredible projects that will unfold this year.
To all our new Mini Vinnies members: wear your badges with pride, and let them be a daily reminder of your promise to live with kindness, humility, and courage. Together, we can be the light that brightens someone else’s day.
"Let us love, not with words or speech, but with actions and in truth." – 1 John 3:18

A Special Report: Shaping Healthy Masculinity
In today's fast-moving world, many boys are struggling to find direction. Even well-meaning online searches about fitness, confidence or relationships can lead them to content that promotes rigid or unhealthy ideas about masculinity. The critically acclaimed TV show 'Adolescence' has brought fresh attention to this issue, highlighting how boys are often exposed to messages that glorify toughness and dominance, while dismissing empathy and emotional openness.
These outdated beliefs can limit emotional growth and impact how boys relate to others - with real consequences in schools, homes and communities. That's why it's more important than ever to guide boys with care, clarity and connection.
By offering healthier role models, safe spaces to talk, and encouraging respectful friendships - especially across genders - we can help boys develop the confidence, empathy and relationship skills they need to thrive.
This special report calls for a cultural shift and advocates for curiosity-driven dialogue that builds trust and critical thinking. The goal is to raise boys who are not just resistant to harmful influences, but actively capable of questioning and rejecting them.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Into his life steps Anna – older, street smart and scornful of his crying. As a way of shutting the boy up, she starts to tell him a story that she vaguely remembers from her own childhood. And so begins a journey into the shifting, shimmering world of ogres, princes, singing bones, foolish lads and wolf-mothers.
Stories in the Dark explores the power of storytelling, mingling the magic and earthy wisdom of folk tales with the hard-edged story of violence, conflict and the struggle to survive.
NETBALL CARNIVALE CHARTERS TOWERS
Last weekend we had two teams of year 7-9 student head over to Charters Towers to compete in the Charters Towers Netball Association Carnival. They played between 6 and 9 games over the two days. We entered our Junior Dragons in the 13-14 year old competition and our Hydra team in the 15 and 16 year old competition. All of the students played really well, and were very supportive of each other across the weekend. At the end of the weekend, Summer Bond from our Junior Dragons (13-14 year old) was names Most Valuable Player for her division. Our Hydra played 6 games on Saturday and 3 games on Sunday and managed to end the competition as runners up. An excellent outcome for the weekend.
A big thank you to Amanda Dutton, who didn’t just coach both teams but also helped by umpiring 10 games across the weekend. We would also like to thank Keia Lavering for coaching one of the teams when they were playing at the same time on different courts.
A big thank you to the families for supporting the students and being with us for the full weekend, even had some driving in from Townsville both days to help make this happen.
